Order an Angelot

Written on

Order an Angelot is an accreditation protocol put in place by Collective Social that aims to prevent sexual violence in bars and festivals around Canada. It allows anyone who fears for their safety to ask for help without having to justify themselves. If things don't go well, don't hesitate to order an Angelot from anyone wearing a macaroon like this on the festival site.

In 2022, the Fierté Montréal Festival was honoured to be the first festival in Québec to obtain the Order an Angelot accreditation with the financial help of the Governement du Québec. By taking an active stand against sexual violence, we hope to inspire other festivals to do the same. We believe in safer festivities for everyone!

How does it work?

The idea is simple: if you do not feel safe, if you are worried for a fellow peer or if you have been subject to an act of sexual violence, you can approach any member of the team that has a button with the Order an Angelot symbol on it and ask for help. An “Angelot” is a fake cocktail that a person can order to discreetly ask for help or relay that help is required without the need for justification.

The Goal

Did you know that 1 out of 2 LGBQ+ people will experience sexual assault in their lifetime and that 1 out of 2 trans folks are victims of unwanted sexual behaviour in public every year (Cotter et Savage, 2019 et Jaffray, 2020)?

In light of this dire reality, the Fierté Montréal Festival teamed up with Collective Social to obtain the Order an Angelot accreditation and ensure the safety of all festival-goers.

Preventing sexual violence

Order an Angelot is an accreditation protocol created by the Social Collective to prevent sexual violence in bars and festive or social events. It allows anyone who fears for their safety to ask for help without having to justify themselves. If anything goes wrong, do not hesitate to order an Angelot from anyone wearing a button like this on the main festival site.
